Steam Cleaning Grout

How many of us actually remember to clean the grout in the kitchen and bathroom? It is a messy job that we usually overlook or at least try to until we notice one day just how bad it has gotten. Trying to get on our hands and knees and scrub it off is not an appealing prospect. Luckily we don’t have to do it that way. All you need is a steam cleaner.

If you do not already own one, rent a steam cleaner. You can find them in a range of brands and sizes. Try to find one that is going to be just the right size and will hold enough water to make cleaning faster. Expect to pay between $50 to $1,000. It is a good thing you only have to clean the grout two to three time in a year.

Take out anything that is on the shelves or the edge of the bathtub. There will be a great deal of moisture in the air and you don’t want anything to get damaged. This is not as necessary when working in the kitchen because you can air it out and it is usually more open. Remove any dust or grime on the surface of the floor with warm water and a mop.

Fill up the water tank and let it sit till it has reached the right temperature. You want it to be at the lowest setting when cleaning walls – but a high setting for the floors and grout. Apply the steam using the applicator and concentrate much of that on the grout. Make sure that you move slowly and work in sections. Any excess water should be removed with a rag.

When you have thoroughly cleaned everything, seal the grout. Purchase a grout sealer and follow the directions carefully. This sealant should be used at least twice a year.
